The Wind

I must introduce you to my old friend. He insists. My old friend has traveled the earth since the beginning of time, brushed every tree root, rubbed up against the outermost shell of the sky dome. My old friend has been around, every which way, up and down, backward and forward.

Five hundred years ago on this very land, my friend was worshiped as the god he is. Only wise spiritual leaders, shamans and medicine men understood the language he spoke.

And now my friend wants to speak with you.

Yes, you.

See, the world continues to change for the better in the smallest, most important places, the places that can't quite be seen so well from the mountain tops of power, and that's inside us.

Many of us carry sparks inside us these days. We're less interested in more money than living sustainable lifestyles. We're less interested in status than showing our children the value of non-violence.

But of all the little sparks floating around in the world today, my friend wants to meet you first. Because when my friend gets hold of a spark, that spark becomes an unstoppable flame.

And your spark, my darling, glows prettier than everyone else's, and hotter.

That's what drew me to you, the heat of your flame, and its color.

And that's why my friend wants to meet you so badly.

You are special inside.

You are beautiful inside.

Nothing quite like a spark ignited, Ed. A few of your own sparks within the piece I see.

I sense that, too...sometimes it feels the air is electric with possibility. Just a bit of wind to fan the flames...

Beautiful. As always.

@alexandra, thanks!
@deidra, i sense that too. i feel the helplessness of living in this atomized society, and i feel the possibilities. yes:)

Moths to flame. It is how we connect, drawn to light. I wonder sometimes that I have friends at all, as dark as I get sometimes. There was a time it drew me, now I seek light and spark as counter balance to my own negativity. I attempt to sit close enough to feel the heat, but avoid the singe. Sometimes I fail in all temperatures.

I just now realized that I wrote my "Wind" piece a day after you posted yours. Nothing conscious; where I hang my hat, the the wind often blows ferociously for days and days. Like now.

So I suppose your breezy friend lit a creative spark in me that was wanting to come into full flame. I love how you love everything the entire Universe has to offer! Pisces,by chance?

@wine and words, i am drawn to the dark you speak of. occasionally i'll post something dark. you do it more often. it takes strength to go dark and speak well. i'm not religious at all, but cs lewis has said you have to be mighty holy to plunge into hell and function.
@rachelsnyder, yeah, i love our wind connection. it blows and then silence. i think it was the persian poet hafiz that said that's how good conversation ought to go. yessiree, i is a pisces, and pisces and rising. basically, i'm fucked that way:)

" . . . the mountain tops of power, and that's inside us."
Might be the best phrase I've ever read.

Beautiful. I have quite a lot of your poems to catch up on; so glad I decided to stop by. The wind, beautiful, a fierce mercy and so much more. And mixed with the human spirit. You have an amazing way with words.
