Singing with the Spirits

One tree is special. One tree’s roots run deeper and branches reach higher than any other. Fire does not work beneath this tree.

In the open, forest animals gather as we toast the sparks in the darkening sky, as we sing to the smoke and call to the spirits with dancing.

The old owl is out. The tall grass sways. A mole insists on tickling my ankle. The wolf king is pleased to meet your big cats. The fireflies are kissing your face as if they just met you.

The moon, resting in the high branches, has even joined us.

I know you don’t like big parties, but I just couldn’t help inviting all my friends. I haven’t seen them in so long. Tonight is a celebration of life, and of returning to life now that you are in mine.

This is lovely. Oh, gosh, fireflies, how I miss them here in Oregon. In Mississippi they are known as lightning bugs, a name that I consider prettier and more appropriate. Of course, it's good to have a common word for things too. For instance, chiggers are called red bugs down there. Again, it's a better name, but it's not as common as the other word.

Celebrating life is worth a party and a firefly kiss!

Ahhh, I always love when a mole tickles my ankle, even with that cold wet nose they have.

Very Noah's Ark this, all encompassing love for each party goer!

Oh how I delight in firefly kisses. They will be missed this winter.

It was a dance. All the elements coming together in at the curtain call of summer's ballet. Soon the band will change, the stage props will be new. But the audience remains with you at all times.

This reminds me of Scandinavian folklore and mythology. I love it!

annie, i originally wrote something like 'summer and autumn have arrived' but i took it out becuz i wondered if lately i have been really telling autumn's tale of coming alive yet again, as he does every year, and falling in love with late summer.

Celebrating today I see. One piece of advice from me. Don't take too many firefly kisses, it might upset the misses..haha

I think I just fell in love with that line, so much. Wow. Gorgeous, beautiful writing, as always, Ed. You continue to amaze and inspire me and make me grin or tear up, depending on how light or heavy your posts are.

Fabulous post.

The images in this piece are incredible! I love the moon resting in the tree branches.

Beautiful. Never been tickled by a mole, but I now know how it feels. Lightening Bugs abound here in The Deep South, and their kisses are sweet.

Namaste..........cj
