Used to be, men with power could kill hundreds of thousands. Today, men in power could kill hundreds of millions.
And they are headed for it. To deny this is to deny an obvious cycle of history.
The men with their hand on the switch of power aren’t bad. They are just diseased. They slave for masters with no faces, masters that cannot survive outside the shadows.
In a situation like this, it's possible somebody might say something to anger the men at the top so much that they remove their hands from the switches of power in order to strangle the outspoken. If that happens, I propose we take action.
I propose we hug and kiss them, hug them very tight and kiss their faces as if they are our own brothers and sons, because they are. Love them for the burden they have carried for so long, for those they have marginalized and murdered because they felt they had no choice. Love them for their own lives that have been sucked away by their dark masters.
Take them into our circle of family and friends forever.
Disassemble the switches.

What a co-incidence that i posted something like this today
http://ruhi-virtually-yours.blogspot.com/2011/09/forgive-if-you-cant-forget.html
To forgiveness and love, warm hugs and wet kisses :)
Seconded!
What you are propsing is too germy, makes me all squirmy. I'll talk too them all nice or just listen, that should help shine a light on their position..haha
yes :) it is a beautiful coincidence that so many blogs spoke of conquering hatred on a single day :)
my latest Post too is about my little attempt at overcoming hatred :)
sometimes love is so unexpected that it can shock the haters into submission. . .
We can hope that the people in power change by the magic of our love.
If they dont, wel . . We didnt really lose anything :) :) :)
Simple yet world-changing.
I am all for it Ed.
ok, now i feel a bit bad aboutmy post today...haha...love i think could win and dismantling the switches may be the only way...
ed, last night i shared an article i read about love and global warming and it reminds me much of what you are writing about. it must be in the air right now what we're all thinking about. i like the simplicity of your post because that's what it is - i look at little ones and i say wow, it's possible you could grow up to be That Guy, and I look at That Guy and think, once upon a time he was that chubby faced boy. And I think about the anger, and the sensitivity, and the fears that are in all of us, and how women and men are brought up in often such distorted realities where we aren't encouraged to be fully ourselves and therefore watching how it comes out in distorted ways. And it makes me sigh, uneasily.
PS - have you read The World Without Us? (i loved it)
Ed- Love is the answer... sometimes it can be so hard though. Thanks for the uplifting piece.
A piece of hope. Your words spark within me a new commitment to respond in love. There are those who have their hand on the switch globally and those with their hand on the switch right in our own homes. Let love defuse the moment...it can be the four letters that saves us. Peace
it is about perspectives.
men in powerful all do that for a good reason,
understanding that, leave them in their own house.
beautiful composition, hope is what we hold and we can make changes in our own life via beautiful attitude.
you make tremendous encouragements to your blogging buddy, keep it up.
you rock the world in your own space, enjoy.
now this is the most unusual and unexpected approach ed...but maybe we should try if it may helps...i like people who think around corners...you for sure do here...
Love can be the answer..should be the answer :)
This statement "shine light in the shadows forever" is my belief
the cello strings, maybe, but every right our ancestors ever earned was from organizing publicly and demanding change. there is simply no example in history of people in power handing over any rights or general improvements by way of generosity. i think the people in power would love it if we just stayed in our houses.
however, i am open to what you say. i know from your writing that you are a free spirit, and as much as we may want to, changing the world is not something that will probably ever happen becuz it hasn't happened yet.
there is certainly wisdom in allowing the world to go where it will go. but i hope to watch while doing what i can to confront power where i think appropriate.
Love over all... is it possible in a fallen world?
it is a full-bodied dream.
What a great plan. We need people who think like this in charge. How come that never seems to happen?
we don't get much of a choice of leaders these days. we get to choose between two people who disagree about so very little on the important issues, but that's how it's designed. they may talk a good game, but their actions reveal who they really are. it's been this way for a while but it's getting worse. these things go in cycles. just my opinion.
One day we will all wake up, those of us who already have a slowly, so painfully slowly trying to waken others. There is only one way the human race is going to survive and that is through love.
Hate and fear just breed more of the same and we are rushing headlong now into something that will force us to change whether we are ready or not.
Lovely thoughts Ed. Like you, I hope one day mankind will realise the mistakes but, somehow I don't think it's stoppable anymore. Money is God now in too many peoples eyes and we are a world of have and have nots which is just going to get worse instead of better for millions of people.
Very thoughtful write!
daydreamertoo, i totally agree with you. i feel the same way. clinging to a shred of hope is what i need to do during this dark time in world events. i have lots of love. i am so grateful for so much in my life. but my fathers and my uncles taught me to think for myself, and i see the same things moving in the same directions that you do.
it's good to be together here on this leg of the ride.
How overwhelming it must be to be one of the people at the top and have that kind of responsibility.
"I propose we hug and kiss them, hug them very tight and kiss their faces as if they are our own brothers and sons, because they are."
Your proposal is fantastic, invite them to dinner at your table too...there's something magical about sitting down at a table...it truly does break barriers.
Well written!
I'm trying to catch up on everyone, so I hope to get to more of your posts.
Overcome evil with good?
crazy:)
Ed, I don't know if it would work, but i do know the only one who ever tried it got crucified--still, I do think you are a hundred times better off trying to work change with love than through anger and hate. I so agree with your earlier statement about having no real choices in picking who's at the top--that was so plain after this last election--our leaders are so obviously puppets that you can almost see them jump when the strings twitch. Thanks for speaking out, for making people thnk and confront their own excuses and failings as well as ladle out the blame.
(Oh and there is no greater gift anyone can give someone growing up than teaching him to think for himself. Inheriting millions is nothing compared to it.)
Hi Ed, sounds interesting on first read, and a second read made me realize ur words..
that's indeed one of the best approaches.. well said :)
thanks, hedgewitch. when i was a kid, i thought it was weird that my ethnic family talked world events. but that's a normal, traditional thing for families to do. i wonder if the introduction of tv into our homes has severed some long-running narratives in families.
Might as well give your idea a try...Nothing else is working
I see that my earlier comment did not show up so I am reposting. I like your idea Ed.. love is indeed more powerful than hate. If only we can begin it at home, perhaps we will have more loving children, who will grow up to be loving parents.
Nice one ~
Ed, for garsh sakes, be careful, don't you know they crucify people for saying stuff like this?
All kidding aside I actually agree with you. Love, what a radical idea!
oh yess! very unusual ... thanks for sharing ... love should be the answer.
Love it. But isn't it a shame the people who need to read it most, won't? :)
Powerful thoughts, almost impossible actions?
Disassemble the switches. I really like that idea.
I THINK it was Abe Lincoln who said, to know the character of a man, you must know him when he has power...by the time most make it to the point where they control the switches, there are so many agendas running through their mind they would have to be crazy to assume the position! Wonder what would happen if we could slip a world agenda under their noses...an agenda that would better EVERYONE...A VERY thought provoking write...and since I'm just getting to know you, I'll resist the temptation to turn your blog into MY soapbox ;)
You have such a way with words!
"They are just diseased." So true . . . it gave me chills.
If love alone were only the answer, I think it might have prevailed. Something in the human animal is hardwired to want to take control. It's probably how we progressed through the ages, mating to the characteristic of the strongest and most powerful. I had a friend once who was in congress who said he had to step over the bodies of young women who were making themselves "available". Power is a strong aphrodisiac. It engenders greed and ruthlessness. Your piece implies you know this - and regardless of outcome, one should forgive them in advance for their atrocities. How very loving of you!
Very much enjoyed how you wrote and presented this prose poem. The Beatles sang it true "All You Need Is Love" but, sadly, there are layers upon layers of of bad blood, history, and down-right evil, that it would take removing all men in office (I'm thinking more in other parts of the world, not here) to start a new plan for peace. Peace ~
Ed, when i read your poem it made me realize that Heaven is so far away. I can't even get the guy behind me on my daily commute to please just back up a few feet, or to at least give my own safety a passing glance as he rushes around me and cuts in front me sharply as though my only intention of the day was to get on this road to purposefully get in his way, or that his need to get where he is going just a handful of seconds earlier is more important than my safety, or the safety of the other hundreds of men, women and children around us. No way can I get my head around trying to talk our murderous leaders into bringing our children home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Or to stop the senseless idiotic killing on any front. The thing about the towers was terrible, a terrible, terrible waste of human life and the agony of what they went through is just unbearable. But the worst of it is that we could have done nothing to stop it. And that is the thing that has been ringing in my head since the day I sat on a couch and watched that carnage unfold. Hedgewitch is right. And I promise you Ed, I am as certain as I am alive that there will be a day that the people in this world who ever cared, whoever brought a simple understanding, an empathy into their own world and into the worlds of those around them, will have the opportunity to do just that and live in this wonderful place you described above.... Because it is Heaven.
Love is an amazingly powerful tool in the face of ugliness.
"The men with their hand on the switch of power aren’t bad."
Do you ever wonder whether our Christian president mistakes loving his enemies with ordering a hit on them?
Totally, Ed! And give them a small huggy stuffed animal that they can keep in their pockets to remind them they are loved unconditionally.
And so be it...
let the speakers speak out and the watchers watch. when the call for action comes, those that wait can follow those that are already pouring love...
